Among the Disney enthusiasts, the big debate has always been: 'Which is the better Disney - Disneyland or Disney World'. Of course, the Magic Kingdom in Disney World is much larger than the one at Disneyland, but some say that the one at Disneyland has the true spirit of Walt Disney; after all, he built it himself. . . and so the debate goes on.

The Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney wanted to create a family park and initially planned to build it on 8 acres of land. This was too small for his dreams, and today, Disneyland, California, is spread over 180 acres. This was something no one had attempted before. Construction began on July 21, 1954, and Disneyland was opened for public on July 17, 1955. The Magic Kingdom included five different lands:

- Main Street, U.S.A., which was the typical turn of the century city Main Street
- Adventureland, an "exotic tropical place" in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa
- Frontierland, where a person has to relive the pioneer days of the American frontier
- Fantasyland, where classic stories of everyone's youth became realities for youngsters of all ages to participate in
- Tomorrowland looked at the marvels of the future

After its success, Walt Disney had a vision of a much larger amusement park. Initially, 27,000 acres of land was bought in Florida and work started on what Walt Disney called Disneyworld.

After his death, his brother Roy changed the name to Walt Disney World. Walt Disney World, or more commonly Disney World, today is spread over 30,500 acres or about 47 square miles. Disneyworld is gigantic when compared to Disneyland.

The Magic Kingdom of Disneyland was recreated, on a grander scale, at Disney World, with Main Street USA, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Adventureland and Tomorrowland. The Main Street buildings of Disneyworld were bigger and more impressive, and even the castle towered higher in comparison to the original version in Disneyland.

Disneyland and Disney World

The added attractions of Disneyworld include three more theme parks and two water parks, in addition to the above mentioned Magic Kingdom. These are:

- EPCOT
- Disney's MGM Studios
- Disney's Animal Kingdom
- Typhoon Lagoon
- Blizzard Beach

The two main attractions of EPCOT are the Future World and World Showcase. The Disney-MGM Studios offers you an opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes. You can explore the pre-historic animal world and the world of animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Here is a comparison of the attractions, which both the Disney parks do not share in common.

Certain attractions, among many others, found exclusively at Disneyland only are:

- Alice in Wonderland
- Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye
- Sleeping Beauty Walk-Thru
- Submarine Voyage
- Matterhorn

Some of the attractions, among many others, found only at Disney World are:

- Cable Cars
- Legend of the Lion King (puppet theater)
- Galaxy Search (Tomorrowland theater)

How to Get a Replacement for Your Lost Disney Ticket

The first thing you have to bear in mind: "Disney is not responsible for misplaced, lost or stolen tickets." This is clearly stated on your Disney ticket. But if your Disney ticket is stolen from you or you happen to lose or misplaced it, there are things you can usually do to get replacement:

1. Photocopy. Upon receiving your Disney ticket, the first thing you should do to it is to photocopy the reverse side of it. It is important to have a copy of the magnetic stripe side, where the code which has random letters, numbers, and dates are stated. This code gives you the only chance of having your lost Disney ticket replaced. Disney usually issues a pass for the person who has reported and presented the code of your ticket.

2. Keep the Receipt. There are 2 "main" ways to get the Disney ticket: (1) directly from the gate, and (2) from Disney ticket broker. If you buy your Disney ticket at the gate, keep in mind that you need to have the receipt with you at all times. In case you happen to lose your ticket, the information on the receipt would give you the eligibility to have your lost tickets replaced.

However, if you buy your Disney ticket from a Disney ticket broker, the issued receipt will not help get a replacement for your lost ticket. So, it still would be better for you to photocopy your ticket before using it.

3. Report your lost ticket immediately. From the moment you realize that your ticket is lost, you should approach the nearest Disney help desk. Disney usually gives the reporter a pass if he/she is able to present the code information (mentioned above).

Important Tips:

1. The second thing you have to consider: "Disney tickets are non-transferable." This means a ticket, once used by the original purchaser, will never be used by others. Therefore you should never buy partially used tickets at any cost. Believe it or not, there are people who sell their partially used Disney tickets everywhere (many vendors in the Disney area, not to mention places like Ebay). If you happen to buy a Disney ticket from these people, there is little chance that you will actually be able to use them. Why? Because Disney uses a system that determines the measurement of the bones of the finger from the first ticket user. The system automatically records this measurement together with the ticket to avoid reselling. This information is stored on the system that will determine if another person has used the ticket.

2. Be conscious of the expiration date. Regular Disney tickets including the Base, Park Hopper, Water Park Fun & More, and Premium tickets have a 14-day expiration from the first day tickets are used. So, you will not be able to use the tickets after the day 14 from your first use. You can, however, get a ticket with no expiration date at an additional cost.

3. If you know that you will return to Disney within a year, buy either the Annual Pass or the 10-day Magic Your Way tickets, with no expiration. This is much cheaper than buying regular Disney tickets every time you visit Disney World. For a 10-day Magic Your Way ticket with no expiration, you can use some days on your first visit and the rest, when you decide to go back.

4. Disney ticket prices increase yearly, so it is advisable for frequent visitors to buy an Annual Pass.

The first step to enjoying an Orlando Disney World vacation is realizing that there is much more to Disney World that just the Magic Kingdom. There are actually four parks that make up the Walt Disney World Orlando resort, all of which are open seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Most Disney vacation packages begin on either Sunday or Monday. These two days also happen to be the busiest days in Disney's Magic Kingdom. When Parents tell their children that they are going to Disney World, thr visions of Cinderella’s Castle and Main Street, USA are all the kids can talk about for weeks. Though the Magic Kingdom may be the highlight for your family, understand that it will be there on Tuesday too; trust me, I have worked there for almost four years. Sunday is a very busy day at EPCOT as well. HINT: Try starting off your trip with a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom or the Disney's MGM Studios Studios.
Your time at Disney is limited so take advantage of the park hopper option on most park tickets and hit two parks that first day. Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney's MGM Studios are great parks to combine. Go to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at 9:00am when the park opens, ride the safari ride and conquer Mount Everest then go to Dinoland and experience all the attractions there. One of the biggest considerations will be the decision as to which parade to see. Mickey’s Jamming Jungle Parade at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or the Stars and Motorcars parade at Disney's MGM Studios.
